JEBALIYA REFUGEE CAMP, Gaza Strip (AP) - Two Palestinian boys, ages 15 and 14, were killed in an Israeli missile strike in northern Gaza on Thursday, their relatives said.

Another teenager, a 13-year-old boy from Jebaliya, died Thursday of wounds suffered last week during the Israeli offensive in northern Gaza, hospital officials said.

In a separate incident near the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis, Israeli troops shot at two suspicious figures in a closed zone near the border fence with Israel, setting off an explosion and sparking a gun battle that killed one of the Palestinians, the military said. Two explosive devices were found near the body.

The army said the missile strike which killed the two teenagers was aimed at militants about to fire a Qassam rocket. The boys' relatives said the two had been playing with an empty tube and gasoline-filled bottles, apparently trying to imitate the gunmen who fire homemade rockets."

Islam Dwidar's classmates were still taking in her shocking death - the teacher weeping outside before facing the girls, her closest friend recounting how they walked to school together each day - when the news arrived about Tahreer Abu El Jidyan.
The two 15-year-old pupils at Jabaliya's school were both shot in the head by Israeli soldiers inside their homes just a few blocks and several hours apart. Islam died almost immediately after the bullet smashed through her forehead as she baked bread with her mother in their yard on Sunday. Tahreer is still on life support at a Gaza hospital after an operation to remove shards of shattered skull from her brain. "

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - Israel said it fired a missile at a group of armed Palestinians early Tuesday, killing one and wounding three, on the sixth day of an offensive that's killed 68.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia on Monday condemned what he called international indifference to Palestinian suffering in the face Israel's push into the Gaza Strip, action aimed at halting rocket attacks on Israel.

At least 68 Palestinians have been killed in the offensive, making it the deadliest Israeli incursion into Gaza in more than four years of fighting.

Nine Palestinians died Monday in northern Gaza, including four militants and a 14-year-old girl who residents said was shot as she baked bread with her mother in their garden.

Israeli military sources said armed Palestinians were the target in Tuesday's air strike but would not comment on reports that a pilot-less drone fired the missile.

In southern Gaza, miles away from the offensive, Palestinian residents said a 4-year-old boy was killed by tank fire next to his house near the town of Khan Younis. The Israeli military said there were no shootings in the area."

Prime Minister Sharon needs to show he can stop rocket strikes like one that killed two Israeli toddlers last Wednesday to counter rightists who say that evacuating troops and Jewish settlers from Gaza will encourage more attacks.

JERUSALEM, Oct. 2 - The Israeli Army killed nine Palestinian fighters on Saturday in its continuing operation in the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian leader, Yasir Arafat, asked the world to stop 'the criminal and racist' military campaign.
The Israelis, who began the operation on Wednesday, say they are trying to diminish or stop the firing of short-range Qassam rockets that can hit Israel from Gaza.

The operation has focused on northern Gaza, including Beit Hanun and the Jabaliya refugee camp, a warren of narrow streets with more than 100,000 inhabitants.
The alleys of Jabaliya are filled with armed Palestinians, many of them masked, and many children and families who have emerged from crowded apartments to watch and to escape the intense heat and humidity. The air is filled with black smoke from burning tires, set afire in an effort to confuse Israeli helicopters, sensors and drone cameras.
Four of the Palestinians killed Saturday had rifles and were wearing flak jackets, the army said. They were approaching the kibbutz of Nahal Oz, and were killed in an exchange of gunfire, the army said. Two Hamas fighters, one an officer, were killed by a rocket fired at their car by a helicopter, the army said. Four bystanders were reported wounded.
The other three Palestinians killed Saturday died in another Israeli missile strike that also wounded four others. They were reported to be from the Islamic Jihad faction. Palestinians said a 60-year-old man in Rafah was shot and killed by gunfire from a nearby Jewish settlement.

"If the enemy stops the assassinations against our leaders, and stops the destruction of our homes and crimes against our people, then we will the stop the Qassams," he said.

In Washington on Friday, a White House spokesman said Israel "has the right to defend itself," but urged both sides to return to negotiations.
