Much of the violence is under-reported leaving a distorted picture of the cycle of violence. From the start of the roadmap process, this blog will try to catalog any violence resulting in deaths on either side, as well as the number of wounded with one entry per event. It also includes violence against peace activists and charitable volunteers. Prior violence is cataloged for context only.

Guard admits shooting Palestinian teen by West Bank barrier - Yahoo! News: "Sat Jul 9, 1:02 PM ET
JERUSALEM (AFP) - An Israeli security guard patrolling construction works for the West Bank barrier told police he had shot dead a Palestinian teenager in the area, but said he had acted in self-defence.
...
"He admitted shooting the youth and was released," police spokesman Shlomi Sagi told AFP, saying the guard claimed he acted in self-defence after a group of youths began throwing stones.
Police opened an enquiry into the incident and asked the Palestinians to hand over the body for a forensic examination to determine if it was the guard's bullet which actually killed him, Sagi added.
Assi's death raises the overall toll since the September 2000 start of the Palestinian intifada to 4,778, including 3,711 Palestinians and 992 Israelis, according to an AFP count.

Israeli settlers stoning and then trying to lynch a teenage Palestinian in a Gaza village
Israeli settlers lynch Palestinian teenager - Forums powered by Reason and Principle: "
ELIZABETH JACKSON: It's an image which many Israelis say has convinced them to support the Government's plan to pull more than 8,000 Jewish settlers out of the Gaza Strip.
Plastered across Israeli TV screens for the past week have been pictures of settler youths, some as young as 13, stoning and then trying to lynch a teenage Palestinian in a Gaza village.
Two settlers have now been arrested for the attack. But the sickening beating has had other ramifications. Shaken by the public outcry over the attack, settler leaders have drafted a code of conduct for future protesting, of non-violence.
Middle East correspondent Mark Willacy reports from Jerusalem.
(Sound of shouting and a thump)
MARK WILLACY: That thump is the sound of a rock thrown by a teenage Jewish settler hitting an unconscious Hilal Majaida in the head. The 16-year-old Palestinian was set upon by a mob of Jewish settler youth, who'd taken over a house in Hilal Majaida's village of Mouasi in Gaza.
His face covered in cuts, bruises, and plaster, Hilal Majaida describes the attack:
'At the time I didn't feel anything because I was unconscious,' says the slightly built 16-year old. 'I just woke up in hospital, unaware of anything around me,' he says.
The settler youth who stoned Hilal Majaida then tried to lynch him. He was saved by an Israeli soldier and a group of journalists. "

Palestinian boy lying on the ground, unconscious. An Israeli soldier bending over him, ...settler coming up ... throwing a stone at the head
Arik's Horror Show: "By Uri Avnery | 07/02/05 'Gush Shalom' - -
All the world saw the horror on TV: a Palestinian boy lying on the ground, unconscious. An Israeli soldier bending over him, not knowing what to do. A settler coming up from behind and throwing a stone at the head of the injured Palestinian. Another settler dropping a big stone on him at point-blank range. A bearded medic, also a settler, approaches the wounded boy, hesitates, and then goes away without treating him, pursued by the chants of a chorus of settler boys and girls: 'Let him die! Let him die!'
Before that, the settlers occupied a Palestinian house on the Gaza Strip sea shore and established an 'outpost' there. It was a pretty, new three-story building, whose owners had not yet moved in. On the outer wall a huge slogan was painted: 'Mohammed is a Swine!' It referred to the Prophet.
A battle of stones ensued between the occupiers and the Palestinians in the adjacent houses. Some soldiers were caught in the middle, fired into the air over the heads of the Palestinians and did not do anything against the rioters. "
