JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man and wounded another Wednesday after the pair crossed into a restricted area around the fence that separates Gaza from Israel, military sources said.

Two people approached the fence from the Gaza side near Nahal Oz on Wednesday morning, entering the 150-yard-wide restricted zone, before troops opened fire, the army said.

One man was killed and the other wounded. The men had no weapons, but were carrying cellular phones, maps of the area and intelligence about army patrols there, the military said. They were apparently collecting information for a future attack, the military said.

TULKARM, West Bank (Reuters) - Israeli commandos killed a militant linked to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement outside a West Bank refugee camp on Tuesday, witnesses and the army said.

Witnesses said Ibrahim Na'nish of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed group within Fatah, was shot dead at the entrance to Tulkarm refugee camp by troops who drove up to him in an unmarked car.

A military spokesman said troops tried to arrest Na'nish but opened fire when he and a second gunman shot at them. Israeli forces have captured and killed scores of militants spearheading a three-year-old Palestinian uprising.

Witnesses said the Israeli shooting was unprovoked and that a second man was wounded. The military spokesman said troops shot at a second gunman at the scene who got away. "

Later Monday, the helicopters targeted a car in the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza after nightfall, killing six people and wounding 70, witnesses and Palestinian officials said.

Residents said one of the dead was a doctor who was treating victims when a second missile struck. The identity of the other victims was not immediately known, and the military did not comment.

There was no word of casualties in the third strike, in which helicopter gunships fired missiles in the Sajaiyeh neighborhood in the eastern part of the Strip's main city.

In the third attack, Apache helicopters launched two missiles at a car. One hit the vehicle, completely destroying it, while the other landed unexploded in a nearby field. The car's passengers apparently fled before the missile hit, witnesses said.
